The BFAR Region I celebrated the 70th Bureau of Fisheries And Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Founding Anniversary in July 2017 by holding different activities that revolved around the theme "BFAR@70: Sailing Towards Sustainable Fish Production" . Traditionally, BFAR celebrates its anniversary every July. Through the collective efforts of BFAR employees, the celebration this year started with a thanksgiving mass. This was to give praise to the Divine Providence and to celebrate the birthday of Regional
Director Nestor Domenden.

Highlighting the anniversary celebration were team building activities at the Awesome Hotel in San Juan, La Union on July 25-26. There were talent competitions, team building games, Larong Pinoy and quiz bee that showed BFAR employees' distinctive talents, physical and mental abilities. The talent competition was participated in by groups of different divisions, stations and operating units. Team Bukto bagged the 3rd place, Team Banglot garnered the 2nd place and Team Arembukeng's life of fisherfolk production was the champion. The annual celebration also serves as a venue for awarding the Milestone Achievement of Employees.

This year, Francis Greg Buccat received the award for his 15 years of exemplary service in the Bureau.

The BFAR Multi Purpose Cooperative also took part in the anniversary celebration. On July 28, some BFAR employees conducted the Annual Outreach program at Ilocanos Sur Elementary School. Assistant Regional Director Rosario Segundina P. Gaerlan spearheaded the activities which included feeding more than 50 pupils and holding parlor games and kiddy activities for them. All students who participated were given some prices, souvenirs and school supplies.

The month long anniversary celebration also showcased the agency' s regular activities like project launchings and turnover of projects to beneficiaries.
